Selecting a domain name
The domain name is the most crucial aspect of success in selling information products via your own website. This is what puts your identity across on the internet and the name is of foremost importance in getting traffic to your website where you will sell your information products. It has to say the right things about your business: that is vital.
You have a choice to make if you are going to make a living from selling information products online. You can have a website which is a general online store for information products but probably the best thing to do is to have one website per niche or per product. This way, you can more easily make yourself appear an expert in this niche.
You should keep your domain name short. You will already have done your keyword search, so you will know the most popular words searched for in your niche. Make sure your domain name uses as many of these keywords as you can in a short – three to five word – doman name that makes sense. People need to be able to remember this domain name, so any longer and you make this difficult.
Make sure also that you only use alphanumerical keystrokes for your domain name. Web browsers and search engines are not good at seeing other special characters, so using them will limit your potential traffic.
There are many different extensions available right now, but a .com extension is best – again because it is most memorable. Also, this is one of the oldest internet extensions so it gives the impression that your business has bee around a while – which makes people more likely to trust you.
Obviously, you need to make sure your domain name is not trade-marked anywhere else or this could land you in legal trouble. That means too, that as soon as you think of a domain name, you should go and register it, before someone else nabs it.
What should you look for in a web host?
Speed is obviously important. You need your web hosting package to be fast so that your visitors can access your website. You can find out a web host’s server speed by ‘pinging’ it quite easily.
Security of your website data is crucial too, especially as you will be conducting business over the interent, which entails taking customer’s personal and credit card details. Your site must be secure and protected from hackers. An SSL certificate is a must.

An e-commerce site consists of three basic features: a web site, shopping cart and a secure pay function. These are a must for you if you are going to run your business online. You want to make money online so you have to collect money over the internet.
